AWARDS ENTERTAINMENT

At our heart, we are an entertainment company and we leap at any opportunity to conceptualize, choreograph and dress live broadcast shows. The Cricket South Africa Awards are one of our biggest highlights.

MAXIMIZE THE THEME

Our main task on the CSA Awards was to conceptualize a line up of entertainment that maximized the awards’ theme in a sophisticated and elegant way. We had to consider this in every pillar of the project. From MCs and costumes to choreography and specialty acts, we had to speak South African in bold, colourful letters.

For the costuming we drew inspiration from Shwe Shwe and Ndebele fabric. Our musical line up included a tribute to fallen heroes for an In Memorium led by the music of the great, late Johnny Clegg. A multicultural spectacle national anthem rendition including two choirs, a quintet and loads of pride.

SPECIALITY ACTS

When it comes to speciality acts we pride ourselves on working with only the best the industry has to offer. For the CSA Awards we proudly brought onboard some acts that push the boundaries of entertainment.

The Trans Oranje School for the Deaf Children’s Choir were one of our favourite additions to the lineup. Their inspirational sign language rendition of the South African national anthem left no dry eye in the house! They were joined by the spritely Jacaranda Children’s Choir and quintet acapella group Beyond Vocal.

One of our favourite performers is Cirque du Soleil veteran Daniel Buckland who does gravity defying tricks on the Cyr Wheel, wowing audiences as he manipulates his body and the cyr wheel to spin around stage.

Aerial artists are a firm favourite of ours in a venue with a high ceiling. One on either side of the stage framed and finished the action on stage beautifully!

BACKSTAGE MANAGEMENT AND SHOW CALLING

The Verb Entertainment team likes to get their hands dirty. For this award show we managed winners, artists and presenters backstage. We also held the fort in front of house with our trusty show caller who made sure the live television transmission and action on stage were smooth and didn’t miss a beat.
